Peer Education/Advocacy Training Application
Training Date: March 8 - 10, 2011 Application Deadline: January 12, 2011
Participants: People living with HIV/AIDS who are currently employed/volunteering as peers or part of consumer advisory boards, and program supervisors from the Spanish-speaking community Training Description: This training program will be conducted in Spanish and will give HIV peers and their supervisors the opportunity to learn: • Information on HIV and treatment • The role of a peer in supporting care and treatment adherence as part of a health care team • Skills to communicate with clients, other program staff and health care providers • Skills and resources to become a trainer or educator of others Registration and Costs: • The cost of the training is FREE. Training materials, light snacks and lunch will be provided • Participants must be able to attend all 3 days • Participants will be contacted via phone for informal interviews and to confirm attendance to discuss special needs • Limited scholarships for travel and lodging are available for participants • Confirmation letters, directions, and a detailed agenda will be mailed prior to the training Eligibility Criteria: A maximum of 20 people will be selected to participate in the training program. Applications are open for up to two people per organization with preference for one member being a person living with HIV/AIDS who is working with the Spanish-speaking community as a peer educator/advocate/navigator. Priority will be given to Spanish-speaking peers and their program supervisors who are currently employed/volunteering with a clinic or community-based organization that provides HIV prevention, care and treatment services to Spanish-speaking communities. Scholarship Information: Limited scholarship funding is available to support travel and accomodation. Please complete the Scholarship Application to be considered for funding. Training Location: The training will be held at the Hotel Solamar in Downtown San Diego, with whom we have negotiated a room rate of $155 plus tax.
